Scott Johnston: ”Babel is a unique festival, I feel at home in Targoviste”

Scott Johnston, director and board member of the Babel Festival, gave us a message at the opening of the 12th edition. A constant presence, friend and lover of Romania and Targoviste, Scott is living proof that in a Tower of Babel languages can really get confused. Perhaps our roots are common, and the Scots and Dacians were brothers.

About this year’s edition, with the theme of “connections”, Scott told us that now, more than ever, we need to be close to each other, to share our stories and dreams, in order to face a world that , I say, live the labor of a rebirth. And phoenix birds are also born from the ashes, maybe that’s just how the world works, first it sets itself on fire, then it’s reborn. We thank Scott for the fact that he feels good in his Romanian skin and I hope that in the end he will unravel the mysteries of this connection that keep bringing him to this land.

A message from Scott, ”târgovișteanul nostru” from Scotland for the Babel Festival:

I’m a Scottish
But
I am also Târgoviştean
Whya it feels like home here. The people and my friends make me feel this way.
Babel is a unique festival and it takes a huge amount of work to create this extraordinary cultural happening every year. So I thank Mihai Constantin Ranin and his team for their commitment to Babel. It simply would not exist without them.

This years theme is connections. During these times in which we live in a world be scarred by conflict, war and fundamentalism. Nations and cultures cannot connect. During this festival we can connect. We will connect. We need to laugh, to cry, to love, to argue but most of all, to connect. Theatre is a language which we all share, let’s share our stories, our hopes, our dreams and aspirations and…let’s Babel up this town!
