Dieter Topp: Meeting point BABEL festival 2017 – ”Surprise, Surprise”

The former puppeteer and actor had changed his metier, studied singing, had been awarded as best singing actor and got lots of success in the lead as „Maxim de Winter” in REBECCA. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PBhAzikFP24)

His „Orlosfky” couplet from The Bat (Liliacul) has been gorgeous singing a very precise falsett, nearly a countertenor. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4gSklwURMMc) It showed his very large variety of voice.

Later we met in Timisoara when I reported about the rarely staged tango operita MARIA DE BUENOS AIRES by Astor Piazzolla. As „poet” he showed how to dance, sing and act. (ORPHEUS opera magazine from Berlin/Munich gave him one page.)

For the first time I saw Daniel Burcea has been in Bucharest. He was in love with creating puppets and doing his own versions of various fairy tales, Rapunzel, Malecivia and others. Daniel and Co. had successfully joined the final of „RTL-Puppenstars” in Germany.

Last year we met each other again during BABEL in Targoviste when Daniel has joined the acting crew of puppeteers in Teatrul Tony Bulandra production of ROMEO & JULIET (staged and directed by Irina Niculescu and John Lewandowski whom we met again in 2017 doing Fire Bird as shadow theatre.) All of the puppets are children of his own, all of them created by Daniel and being handmade. It seems to be a never ending love affaire.
