Mihai Constantin Ranin – Historical meeting today, in Targoviste. AMASIA – Union of Intercontinental Festivals

Today, the Tony Bulandra Theater in Târgoviște hosted a meeting of the theater directors from countries found on three different continents. Mihai Constantin Ranin, the manager of the theater and the initiator of the Babel Festival, led the discussions and presented the main constituent articles of the AMASIA Festival – Union of Intercontinental Festivals.

The meeting was attended by the most important representatives, theater managers, directors and specialists in festivals and theater networks from: Romania, Kazakhstan, Egypt, Poland, Korea, Germany and Bulgaria.

It is a historical meeting. Even though I said at the beginning that this AMASIA festival will be with five European countries and five countries from the East, from Asia, I see that there are also other countries interested, which is very good, we can develop, Mihai Constantin Ranin said in the onset of this meeting.

AMASIA- Union of Intercontinental Festivals

amasia - union of intercontinental festivals
„Romania’s collaboration with Korea was the starting point of this festival and here is my friend, Mr. JeungWoo Son, with whom I discussed both in Romania and Korea, several times, to establish it -AMASIA – because we came to the conclusion that there is no such festival similar to the Olympics, which have a large scale and take place in all these countries that are part of it at one point”

The idea that was apprehended is that of playing twice a year, ten shows in two different countries. Our task is to convince governments and private institutions to fund these festivals. They will be held once every five years, for the namely government.

The success of the first edition of the AMASIA Festival is very important

Another idea is to also have the chance to host this festival in our country at some point. The problem is that the first edition will be a sacrifice because it will be a pilot edition. Surely this festival will increase the artistic skills of the initiators of the festival and attract funds and artists to this story.

It remains to be further discussed, for example, each country, each year could support a group with the participation in the AMASIA festival. This way it is much easier to organize this festival. Basically, governments fund the festival a little bit every year and once every 5 years with a bigger funding.

AMASIA is the future continent that will be formed by the union of all the current continents if this geological, physical reality will ever come true.-n.r.1–

AMASIA, basically, is a Union of Intercontinental Festivals, mentions the manager from Târgoviste

So the idea is the proximity of the continents, the circulation of works of art and the creators of these cultural products. We will see what are the common elements that bring us closer. Then they can be related to the shape of the performance, to what we want to promote from a technological point of view, from the point of view of theater schools, and the audience of the future. Basically it is a Union of Intercontinental Festivals.

We know each other, the problem is to build an institution that will be respected by our governments, whoever they are, whenever. It should not be started with 61 countries, it should be started with us and the others will adhere by themselves if the work is of quality and respected.

Mc Ranin: For now we are laying the foundation, not building the house

Firstly, they will be invited as observers and then we will see how we develop. The moment they see that our orientation is not financial our problems are not financial but rather related to art and culture, surely the talk will be different.

Therefore, my opinion is that the financial part has to come after this organization, not before. For now we are laying a foundation, not building the house.

Forget the International Theater Institute and the International Mediterranean Theater Institute, two global institutes that are not doing their jobs. They are completely destroyed. They have been destroyed due to the disappearance of some people. They have income but they do not know how to build something in the spirit in which we are discussing.

The recording of this meeting is on the YouTube channel of the Oficial Media newspaper

We must not repeat their mistakes. It’s a build for the future, we might not benefit much from these things, but I think we have to. It is our duty as humans to do it.
